Our love for horses must go beyond emotions,
it must lead to pro active action.
Horse Rescue and Placement
We have established a program to take in and look after horses that are in need of good homes. Judi and I realize that there are times when people can no longer keep up the commitment to care for horses. These times of economic uncertainty have forced many people to reconsider the high cost of boarding a horse.
We have had nearly two dozen horses go through our rescue and placement program. We are not funded by any outside sources so we are very grateful for any and all donations that come our way.
Unfortunately horses get old and need extra TLC, for some this becomes an overwhelming situation. We have taken in several horses that we had to put down. No matter what fancy words you use to describe it, it still ends up in putting the animal down. We try to make the last days good ones and each horse is taken for a quiet walk (always on a warm sunny day). We have also been given horses due to a change in their owners life (move or employment change) some of these were later placed in good homes.
Judi received a 10 year old Norwegian Fjord called “Jethro”.Seeing he was fully trained to drive, we purchased a sleigh .The grand kids sure have fun as they sleigh ride and sing "Jingle Bells".
Sometimes people buy "too much" horse for their comfort and safety level. We take these in as well, often working with the horse and owner to re-unite them. These are always rewarding times.
A horse we sold to a wonderful couple ten years ago has been donated back. Sarge retired here until his passing in early 2013, he brought great joy to the kids in his last years.

We are so blessed.....
Sometimes a "rescue" is more like a gifting.. this is "Red" (AQHA Coyote Canyon) a 2002 Gelding by our Stallion Krogs Jazzy Doc (then owned by Bob and Paddy Owens). We are happy to add this gentle boy to our herd of Foundation Quarterhorses......thanks Paddy
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Slaughter House....
|
So here we go again - I got a call from a "meat buyer" - seems he somehow got stuck with a horse he felt was way too good to go to the slaughter house. This purebred appaloosa mare was purchased at auction in Armstrong to be used on a dude string up in BC's north. After spending a day and a half in a livestock truck this old mare was saddled and run up a hill where she nearly collapsed from being out of breath. The prospective deal fell through and horse was loaded back in the truck to be hauled to the Kamloops yard. An hour outside of Kamloops I got a call regarding her. After a quick conversation we settled on a price (less than what he had paid for her) but a bit more than meat prices. And so we ended up with a horse with no name, no history and LOL no tail. I picked her up and she was beautiful, in looks and disposition. After several hours I was able to track down her original owner - this mare was well broke and great for trail rides. A true blue kid's horse. She was just out of shape, LOL aren't we all?
Although she hadn't been ridden for five years we saddled up and had a great afternoon in the arena. Every once in a while you come across a horse that is eager to please, seeking your approval I am pleased to say Emma is one of those. Her registered name is AF GO WIN SUPREME Appoloosa Horse Club Of Canada #37147 |
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO....
We rescued this quiet mare. Her owner was killed in a car accident and his parents sold the mare to a horse buyer. She was too good to ship right away so was hung on to for about a year... then we found her. No name, registered, but no papers, no idea of any history...
Background Pedigree: Unknown
Last year this mare was instrumental in helping a young man deal with PTSD. In an unprecedented act of tenderness this mare step out of the running herd and walked over to this young man, stood straight in front of him and laid her head on his shoulder. I have never witnessed this behavior in her at all, in fact she can be quite standoffish - there is incredible healing in the soul of a horse. Since this remarkable event Brandy has gone
to live with him and his other horses. And now you know the rest of the story.
